Dom Hz – EARZ003 – Openearz Recordings

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

It’s been a while since a dubstep release has really pushed me far enough to need to post about it here – which in a way is a shame, but also a testament to the quality of Openearz Recordings’ newest EP from Dom Hz.

Not content with putting out incredible releases from Indigo, xxxy and Synkro, they have called upon yet another Mancunian Dom Hz to fulfill the latest delight.

The release is pure aural pleasure. From the abyssal “Mist” with it’s synth-led intro and epic drop in to sub laden territory, through Elevator Skank, with it’s rolling organ vibes, piano and vocal snippets, to the super-loved-up “Without You” doing for dubstep, what Herbal Essences did for shampoo.

If ever there was a release to get for a Valentines gig – this was it!

Asusu – undiscovered deepness…

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

I’ve just been forwarded to Asusu, by a fellow producer and I have to say I’m mightily impressed.

I dread to mention Burial here, as it would seem people are getting sick of his oversaturated apparent influence (which I’ve yet to see proven) but let’s say Burial hooked up with Synkro, Indigo, Martyn and hell… TRG (just for the hell of it) – then the result would come out a little like Asusu.

His work reminds me of all of the above artists, and more – echoes of Boards of Canada, and Aphex Twin are apparent, and the more recent VVV shares a similar style.

So instead of rambling about how good it is any longer, I’ll just gently nudge you in the general direction of a top-notch EP on Junodownload, and indeed his MySpace page.

Enjoy!
