I find myself struggling to find good solid dubstep that stays true to the original sound while still feeling somewhat fresh, so it’s always nice to get tracks from top bloke and all-round talented producer Rob Sparx.

His label Migration is back up and running after a quiet period at the end of last year (following the demise of Z Audio as a distributor) and with a new distribution deal in place, Migration is set to shift some units, and there’s no doubt they will.

MIGRAT006 is a collaboration (or “vs” if you will) between Majiika and label owner Rob. Roots-style vocal work, a nifty slab of sub, with a big crunchy (classic dubstep style) beat over the top is the basis, as well as some nice pads, shoegazy-guitar, and a lovely bit of breaks.

MIGRAT006 Majiika vs Rob Sparx – Avoiding the Issue by Migration Recordings

Add to that a remix from Truth, providing a bit more wobble (in moderation of course) and some nice dubbed out delay on the vocals, and you’re on to a winner.

The release is due in stores on Monday 13th June.

Rob Sparx is not only an amazing instrumentalist (piano, guitar and double bass to name a few) but he’s an excellent music producer. From his days of drum & bass production, to his current production across the dubstep and electro spectrum he’s known for both deep and up-front tracks and he’s a top DJ to boot. Having spent a few days on tour with him and having DJd with him a number of times now, I would recommend this opportunity to anyone who’s serious about improving their production methods.

Rob is offering very affordable one-to-one production session. His experience really is second to none. With so many styles and genres, and so much in the way of knowledge, you’d be hard pushed to find a more honest, and able tutor.

Essentially, you can get a day in his studio for £100. Not only that but he’ll mix and engineer a track and stems with you for the following prices:

£60 for a single track with a small amount of additional production if necessary
£100 for two tunes with a small amount of additional production if necessary
£100 Whole day spent completing one tune with lots of additional production

Rob clarifies:

“Additional production means adding my own sounds to improve the mix. I will only accept tunes I think are worth completing and if I think the tune requires a whole days work rather than the usual 3-4 hours then it will have to be £100 rather than £60. I’ll be posting before and after results on Dubstepforum from previous jobs provided the producers I did the work for are ok with that.”

So if you’re in Leicester (UK), or fancy a trip there I’d suggest getting in touch with Rob now, before he runs out of space or timeslots.
