Aside from having the usual mix of new tracks to have landed in my inbox (as well as one or two others aswell) I’ve had a brand new producer send me a world-exclusive track which got me rather excited!

The producer (or indeed producers?) goes by the name of Blind Mice, and the track in question is the last one on the latest Insight. It’s a 160-ish flurry of vocals and melody which feels to me like a pretty fresh take on the footwork/juke style stuff that has been peppering the scene lately.

Apparently unavailable anywhere else, I suggest you check this one out. I’ve got Blind Mice tipped for big things over the next couple of years!

Both her personality and her music were sparkling with excitement. Tinker’s style being one of varied sonic indulgence, her DJ sets were a mix of skwee, wonky, otherstep, future bass, broken beat and hip hop. Now I list those genres like I know what I’m talking about, but to be honest with you, I’m struggling with “otherstep”. I suspect it may be a “West coast thing“. Needless to say there was a huge variety of spangly beats and flexed, slung rhythms.

More and more, I’ve realised that actually I can do this without DJing, since podcasting, producing mixes and putting together compilations and EPs is equally, if not more effective at doing the same thing, and the potential listener base can expand limitlessly, as well as my provisions being available for longer than an hour’s worth of mixing (and subsequent sketchy recording).

So, the mighty ASC has also turned his production hand to podcasts it seems. The first of which has been made available to download from his site. Dubbed “Auxcasts” his description is below:

The idea behind the Auxiliary podcast is to first and foremost showcase music that I’m into. Obviously, having a label gives me a platform to make my music accessible for the consumer, but the podcast acts as a further insight into what makes Auxiliary what it is. No track listing will be provided and the podcast will be presented as a 320kbps download direct from the site.

As disappointed as I am to hear that there’s no tracklist to froth over, I’m also rather excited to check the podcast out and perhaps garner some new inspiration, and some new found respect for artists that ASC is enjoying. My only worry is that it’s packed with excellent music that I can’t get hold of anywhere, and then where will I be? Is this the audio equivalent of a carrot on a stick? I guess we’ll see…

That desire to showcase music that I have been sent, combined with the enjoyment of putting good music out there where it can be discovered led to Insight.

The fortnightly podcast started as just 7 tracks each fortnight but has grown to a rather more rounded 10 tracks per episode. The format is simple – play each track in full (with mixed start and end, plus a bit of intro or ident over the top to save it being ripped) – provide it in a high quality downlodable mp3, as well as the facility to subscribe with RSS, or with iTunes, and do my part to give these producers and artists well-deserved attention.

It’s been around 40 weeks now since the first episode went live, and I’ve seen the podcast grow rather nicely. This Sunday marks episode 20 and I’m proud to have brought it this far and expect to fully continue to produce the podcast for the forseeable future.
