Dave Wesley – Merkaba Sessions Alpha EP

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Mr Wesley has certainly been busy since we last featured him on SittingOvation. With a number of other releases out on Arctic Dub he’s been working hard to bring us all that sweet dub-ambient and dub-techo sound.

His latest EP “Merkaba Sessions Alpha” is available on Bandcamp right now, and I have to say I’m still as impressed now as I was a year back when I first came across his stuff.

I suggest you take a trip over to his Bandcamp page now and check out his latest offerings!

Absense – Haze

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

The consistently excellent Absense has unveiled a new track from his secret workshop and I’m delighted to be able to present to you “Haze”.

You can hear the track on Absense’s MySpace here.

It’s perfect really. I have real difficulty putting my appreciation for Absense’s work in to words – suffice to say I’m desperate to hear more from him in the future!

Format None – Relax

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Soft waves of Korg synthey goodness remeniscent of Martyn’s work, and light drum pattern work that would be at home in a 2562 track.

This is “Relax” by Format None and you can hear it at his MySpace page

3 and a half minutes of audio bliss in a gorgeous track that lives up to it’s name. Linas has done well to capture the right feel for this track, and there’s not much more to say other than “get over there and check it out”. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Muteqx – Snap In Time

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Muteqx is Nottingham based Dave Silvester – a multi-instrumentalist who lends his hand rather nicely to the deep crafted sounds of dubstep in his latest track “Snap in Time”.

You can listen to the track here on his myspace

It’s a nice smooth chilled out affair, based around some filtered synth chords, and some of Dave’s very own muted trumpet licks.

There’s nothing about this 7-minute demonstration of excellence that I don’t like. It’s got a nice sub, some great synth work, and the trumpet just sets it off nicely. I can’t quite put my finger on what makes this so great – and incredibly listenable, but I expect you’ll agree if you check it out – it’s just got that extra something.

If you’re in to your deep, chilled and smooth step – get on this. It’s due out on Insectmind sometime soon – so keep an eye out.

Miretz – I Was Lost

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

http://www.myspace.com/miretz

After checking this out I felt compelled to write a wee post on the track “I Was Lost” – I’ve been sent a version with a fixed sub – so I’m presuming the MySpace will get updated or may even be up to date now – but let’s assume it is (or will be).

So we’re presented with a smooth piano & strings intro, and a nice snappy 2-step drumloop over the top. A quick synthed-out vocal sample, and the sub layers on top of the whole thing to fill the track up. We’re treated to a gorgeous 4 minutes of smooth, deep and soulful breaksy pianos, strings and sub.

As far as I’m concerned this is an excellent little tune, and a personally I’m rather proud of my little find!

Check it!

Sines very kindly let me hear a number of his tracks the other day – and to be quite honest with you I’m blown away by his talent. He has a fantastic ability to take some warm synths, pads or some classic tones and craft them in to a great track. His ear for a melody and samples makes his productions stand out among those working at the smoother, deeper end of the spectrum and I expect he will be one of the key players as both the ‘scene’ and sound of dubstep progress.

He’s already working hard behind the scenes at Formant Recordings, and has recently joined the ranks at Echodub. You can find out more about Sines from his MySpace.

If you enjoyed the track, or would like to add anything – feel free to comment below!

Also – if you would like to offer SittingOvation an exclusive track, then just get in touch.

Forensics – Exile EP [DIGISIN03]

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Muted piano chords, a delicate minimal beat and a subtle bassline. “Exile” is a quietly self-assured track which is given the re-work treatment on the new “Exile EP” from Forensics.

The original “Exile” track is on there, but the real treat is the vocal version which features Indi Kaur. Her choral articulations sitting beautifully over the track, as if they had been intended from the word go.

There are two other remixes on the EP.

The first by “Phaeleh” is a bleak wintery soundscape of synths, clicks and well crafted beats, as well as a melodious line which adds to the atmosphere.

The second is from “Not In My Name” which is apparently maestro Threnody and some cohorts. Their orchestral, stuttering and more synth-line driven re-work managed to shed new light on the melody as well as provide something seemingly more upbeat than the other pieces on the EP.

The Exile EP is a fantastic example of Forensics’ ability to not only craft a track from a small number of stems, but also to bring together an EP of such wealth from just a few producers.

Currently the EP is exclusive to Digital-tunes – but you can always find out more from the man himself.

New Collective to push deep, dubby & chilled sound

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

I don’t normally post news here as such – to keep it to the reviews, but this seems relevant considering the artists involved have featured here, and represent a sound that I’m very much in to at the moment.

Echodub is the name of the collective.

You can check the site out, and there’s a single release for now, with more coming soon.

King SlaFF – Testament

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Fire over to King SlaFF’s MySpace and cop a listen to ‘testament’ on the player.

It’s a simple construct, and the bassdrum may not knock your socks clean-off, but there’s something very attractive about this track. It has that regular irregularity, that organised disorganisation, a feeling of diversity, while retaining a very singular theme.
