Foiled Torsos – Urban Decay / Vital

“Urban Decay” begins with the sound of some post-apocalyptic landscape. There’s this very evident noise-loop which just puts the whole track in some state of… well… decay I suppose. I say that like it’s a bad thing – but I feel like without it, and some of the other ambience built up in the mix – It wouldn’t be quite the same track.

The basis of the loop is a semi-subtle sub, and a minimal percussion/drum-loop that carries some rather eerie synths through the track. There’s something of a lack of breakdowns, or variation – but I get the feeling this one’s all about building up that almost hypnotic loop and getting entirely lost when the breakdown finally dissipates and leaves you with nothing but that noise. After that there’s nothing left to do but fire that monotonous loop back on and nod your head to the sounds of a crumbling environment.

Ido Flax – Deeper / Out of Blank / Vortex

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

If you can find anything on the internet about Ido Flax other than a Facebook private profile and this rather suspect looking page – then please post it in the comments, as I’m lost for MySpace profiles, Virp players or sites. Not even a post on a forum.

How Mr Flax promotes his tunes is beyond me, but I expect if he was to consider putting some out there, he might get some favourable results. (I got them via email)

EDIT: – we have a MySpace page from the man Flax himself! Tune in and read on!!

Lacood – Progressive Dubstep Vol. 1

Monday, August 25th, 2008

You may or may not have heard of Lacood. I for one, hadn’t until this evening. Previously a drum & bass producer Lacood has been converted to the dubstep side of things for the 13th release on Synthactica records.

So SYN013 is currently sitting at 82 on the Juno dubstep chart, and has been around for just 4 days. If you’re quick you can jump on over to their site, and download the release for free (which might have something to do with the Juno chart position not being a little higher right now) you can probably sit and listen to it as you read the rest of this post – but if you miss their giveaway (looks like it’s just an August thing) then you can get it through Juno. Where you can at the very least stream a sample or two!
