Sepalcure – Sepalcure [Hotflush]
Sepalcure’s self titled debut album has dropped, and I’m more than a little excited about it.
Every so often, you hear a track that makes you excited. You scramble for something to write with, or a way to make a note of the artist and track, and you track it down, listen to more and more and it becomes one of your “favorite tracks”. You suddenly find this loyalty to an artist you feel like you know, and your faith in the world of music is reinstated.
Often it happens when you least expect it, and you’re rarely prepared, but when it happens, it’s a truly beautiful thing. Not only that but you want to help preach the word to everyone about how good that particular artist or band is, and how you just discovered them, and how they’re going to be the next big thing and all that.
Often said artist or band will give you the chills for a bit, then it’ll die off and you’ll wonder what the fuss was all about. They’ll release more tracks and you’ll realise it wasn’t all that great in the first place and lose your love for what they were doing and forget about it while the next big thing comes along and farts them out of the way.
This decline has not happened with Sepalcure. Quite the opposite. Sepalcure caught my ear a while back, before their first EP surfaced. Not only that but I got all excited about their stuff, and I genuinely felt they were pushing a sound that was fresh and emotive and all the good things about music that I love. They pushed forward and released a second EP, and a remixes EP of the first, where I discovered that taken in a different direction, their music could provide continual fulfillment both on and off the dancefloor. I’ll never forget the first time I played the XI remix of their track “Love Pressure” to a crowd in San Francisco (my first time in California, no less) and thinking “Shit, this sounds even better than I imagined on a great system”.
So with their existing catalogue of EPs and their combined solo efforts (which, as an aside are truly wonderful in themselves) in mind, it really couldn’t have been better news to find out that an album was on the way. The thought of a full-length of their work that I could immerse myself in was awesome news, and so now that it’s finally dropped I can honestly say that it was worth the (at times excruciating) wait.

I for one, love the artwork. Sougwen’s work seems so fit for purpose here. For me, it sums up the music as well as compliments it. A perfect example of an album cover that works.
I’m not going to slur my way through an ever increasing list of adjectives for the music, or well-up at just how beautiful this all is, I’m just going to post the preview, some links and let you immerse yourself in the music. On the off-chance that you’ve not heard of these guys, or not been aware of their sounds, then I hope that you can get the same satisfaction from this, as I got when I first heard their work.
