The new SittingOvation design

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Now in to our third design I’ve decided that the previous design of the site was restricting in a sense, and so with an update, I’ve got for a look and feel change too.

Some things to note:

  • Comments won’t work on older posts now, I’ve upgraded to the latest WordPress and this has done all sorts of funny things to old post comments – so you can only comment on posts from this one onwards. Sadly, this is a bit out of my control.
  • There are likely going to be little bugs here and there. If you spot one, let me know.
  • I’ll probably try adding a few little things here and there as time progresses, so don’t be alarmed if new eatures start to pop up.
  • If you have any comments or suggestions, just say so – alex[at]alex-c.com

And here’s to the new design!

Advertise on SittingOvation

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

It’s nothing major, but I’ve implemented a small sponsor/advert space in to the footer of every page.

If you’d like to advertise on the site, I’m open to offers and discussions. I can provide information on hits and suchlike, and am happy to discuss a reasonable fee.

Let me know by getting in touch – alex[at]alex-c.com

Steve Foulds – Low Winter Sun

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

After hearing his Blacklight EP, I’ve been on at Steve for some collaboration, so expect to hear some Steve Foulds & DFRNT combined material at some point in the future, however for the time being you should check out his new track “Low Winter Sun”

You can stream it from his Soundcloud here – http://soundcloud.com/breakitdown/low-winter-sun

Watch out for those beautiful dubby synths in the breakdowns (and the intro) – This one is fairly progressive too – a nice big driving drumloop and bassline keep this one a little more dencefloor orientated.

Get on it!

Lethem Dub – 2 free EPs

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Well produced deep dubstep with touches of classic dub/reggae and the sensibilities of dub-techno with added ambience.

You can’t pass this up to be honest. A producer who goes by the name of Lethem has just released 2 EPs which you can go and grab for free. Together, that’s 7 tracks for absolutely nothing.

Often free EPs can be risky in terms of quality and production value, not to mention mastering and vareity, but this seems to tick all those boxes and more.

For fans of dubstep of all types, although especially the deeper more experimental side – this is not to be missed.

You can sign up for the EPs here – http://lethemdub.com/ where a simple email signup witll grant you access to the goods.

I can’t say much more than “go get” really! Larvely stuff.

Steve Foulds – Black Light EP

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

blacklight

Having moved quite swiftly from dark, driving progressive house to the sweeping filtered white-noise of dub-techno, Steve Foulds has shown us that his production ability is second to none.

His first foray in to the world of dub-techno, in the form of the Black Light EP is sublime. Check it out here.

Four tracks of filtered ambience, set to tight percussion, with a nice variety of dubby swooshes, and all those nice touches that make the sub-genre so enjoyable (for me anyway).

I’m aware of Steve’s pre dub-techno explorations in to progressive house, and have always admired his ability to craft a good drumloop, and bass pattern, so it’s great to see him developing his style and I can really only expect more top tracks to come.

There are rumors of a vinyl release for this EP – but for now, you should go buy it from his Bandcamp page. As well as getting four amazing tracks, you’ll be able to say “i got there first” when his tracks skyrocket in popularity too!
