ZeECc strike again with ECc004 and ECc005

The French dub-techno advocates ZeECc have done it again!

2 more excellent releases have been released from Inn-R and Mr Cloudy to add to their growing roster of intelligent dub-techno.

Inn-R’s release is a three-track outing in to dub-techno, with a fairly high-energy feel. Definately erring on the side of techno, more than dub – but there’s still the inherant sweeps and chords associated with the sub-genre.

MrCloudy’s release, which in my opinion is the stronger of the two – is definately more relaxed. Letting the dub elements flow while the muted bassdrum walks you though parks and avenues. For me, this EP is reminiscent of the likes of Quantec or BVDub both of which I’m sure I’ve mentioned previously on SO.

I suppose a great deal of dub techno is similar sounding, and as a result has a tendancy to be forgettable – but at the very least you should check these two releases from ZeECc – and take note of the label, as it sounds as if they’re most definately on the money with their future forthcomings.

Both EPs were released on 17th June, on ZeECc records

Absense – Haze

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

The consistently excellent Absense has unveiled a new track from his secret workshop and I’m delighted to be able to present to you “Haze”.

You can hear the track on Absense’s MySpace here.

It’s perfect really. I have real difficulty putting my appreciation for Absense’s work in to words – suffice to say I’m desperate to hear more from him in the future!

DJ Madd – New Beats and a free track!

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Having been furiously producing for the past few months, following his incredible “Numbers” release on Jamie Vista’s “Boom Bap Records” – DJ madd returns to us with a bit of an update.

There are a handful of new tracks on his MySpace – including my personal favourite “Why” due on Tube10 soon.

And as well as this, he’s provided us with a free 320. You can’t say fairer than that!

Download DJ Madd – “Tonight” here.

In his own words Tonight is “a smoother garagey vibe track for your listening pleasure“.

My money’s on this Hungarian newcomer! (Not to mention the fact that he’s going to be remixing one of the tracks from the forthcoming DFRNT – “Metafiction” album)

Sturban Clothing Affiliation

01_sturban_promo_r1_c1

I’m proud to announce a new affiliation between SittingOvation.com and SturbanClothing.com

Sturban Clothing is a pretty well hooked-up clothing store based in the UK. Focusing on Streetwear, Hip Hop, Skatewear, Graffiti, Camo and Organic Clothing – I’d say they’re on the money when it comes to threads. With brands like King, Fly53, WESC, Addict, Element, Obey and ZooYork you can’t really argue that they clearly know their stuff.

Going forward this means that SittingOvation will be hosting periodic competitions, promotions and features in association with Sturban, as well as being able to provide discount options for subscribers.

More details on these to follow.

In the meantime, I suggest you fire over there and check the merchandise!

Dr Pytor EP [F4T08]

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

F4T, or Food 4 Thought Records have been pushing a strain of dubstep that you might consider to be rather experimental. With the arrival of Dr Pytor, a new producer for the label – things don’t look set to change too soon. If you like your dubstep to be thoughtful, yet somewhat abrasive, or considered, yet slightly off-kilter, then this release may just be right up your street.

I’m not sure what Mr Pytor has his doctorship in, but it could be “Doctor of Athmosphere” – judging by the vareity of tracks on display here, and some of the chat from the release-sheet, I woulnd’t argue if somebody told me it was. The 4 tracks range from blaring alarm-echoes, to drawn-out growly bass but all united by well considered percussion in this case.

I’d say definately one for the headphones.

Forensics – My Strength Is My Weakness My Weakness Is My Strength

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

If ever there was an argument for the “less is more” ethos of musical production, you can be darned sure that Forensics would be right up there fighting his case. His ability to mould these semi-industrial sounding tracks from just a few elements is astounding, and his determination to break the typical structure of what one might term dubstep seems to be something of a trademark.

With no real drops or breakdowns – but more of a stream of sample-led ebbs and flows his newest (and fifth) LP on Digital Sin is certainly along the lines of what you might expect if you had heard his previous work – but with this one there’s a real element of mystery, something sinister and what sounds to me like far more textural work than I had heard from him before.

You might consider this a progression, and it’s one I’m glad to see. It’s definately something to check out – and although there’s not always a hook, riff or recurring theme in some of the tracks to grab hold of, it’s always refreshing to hear producers breaking the mould, and just doing their own thing whether people like it or not.

The album will be out onDigital Sin on June 8th

Robert Henke / Monolake – Free track for June 2009

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

After browing my usual feeds today, this caught my eye.

I’m a big fan of Monolake’s output – and he’s giving away freebies! He’s made available a track which he reckons is from around 1992, called “Der 517. Tag der Mission” which in his words is “a loose sci-fi reference. I imagined this rusty spaceship, somehow lost far out, and things started to become a bit odd after 517 days in space. A little Major Tom moment…”

Sounds good to me. I’d urge you to check it out for some melodic synth work. Especially around the half-way mark when the blips start getting interesting!!

Check it out now
