Get a look at this!!

mutantrumpet

Apparently it’s a “Mutantrumpet” and it’s only owner is Ben Neil – http://www.myspace.com/benneill – I urge you to fire on over to his page or website and take a listen to his tracks.

Think tripped-out jazz type dubstep with moments of blissful lounge, all while underwater, on acid.

Dj AXS – Moment To Dub EP

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

A swirling, swelling intro and a beautiful synth line start this brand new EP from Dj AXS. Hailing from France, his excellent blend of dub-techno and minimal beats sit perfectly together on this 6-track effort from ZeECc records [ECc002]

Have a listen here – http://www.myspace.com/zeecc (Moment To Dub & Section tracks.)

Notion of Space had me hooked from the outset, although my only issue was that aside from all the swelling, ebbing and flowing – the track felt like it could have broken out in to some insane stormer of a track at any moment, but never quite reached that breaking point.

Undead Line take s asimilar approach with swelling sounds, this time on a more electronic/tech tip and slightly more ambient. The addition of a sub in this one gives it the edge, and the whole thing reminds me of Quantec, which is my books is always good.

Rechorder [Arome] is the thrid ambient outing, and this EP is reminding me more and more of the much loved “Special Love” album put out by Kaito as a beatless supplement to the Special Life album.

Section takes on a more sinister approach with the Basic Channel strain of dub-techno vibes throughout and some top-end percussion to keep you moving.

The title track Moment to Dub is another beautful swirling track, and the final track; a remix of Rechorder is equally welcome here.

I’d actually go out of my way to reccomend this to anyone feeling the dub-techno vibes these days. This one is well worth a peek, and I’d hope that nobody was disappointed.

New magazine – Modus

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

My newest project, and contribution to the world of dubstep & dub-techno is Modus.

It’s going to be a magazine aimed loosely at dubstep and dub-techno – but instead of focusing on merely reviews and interviews, we’re going to feature photography, artwork, features, proper articles, well informed research and so forth. We’re also looking in to competitions, giveaways, free tracks with each issue in the form of a media download pack and much more.

It’s all in development – but you can get yourself on the list to be notified when it launches at the site now…

I’d reccomend you add your email address – this could be big…

3 quick notes of interest…

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

As I’m a little short of time sometimes, I’m going to start posting short notes about artists worth checking out. Instead of going in to great depth, I’m going to use an almost twitter-like approach and just post a quick note about them and a URL to check.

I’ve got 3 to start with. All dub-techno, all worth a peep. Get to it!
